Scope and content:

The collection contains financial records, photographs of the Bissinger tanneries and of company employees, business-related correspondence, company by-laws and articles of incorporation, notices of dissolution, and company minutes (1901-1927).

Biographical / historical:

In 1880, Bissinger and Company, an outgrowth of the Alaska Commercial Company, was organized in San Francisco. It specialized in hides, wool, and related articles and maintained tanneries, slaughterhouses, and offices in Oregon, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Washington, California, and British Columbia.

Acquisition information:
The Bissinger and Company records were transferred to The Bancroft Library from the Judah L. Magnes Museum in 2010.
