Biographical / historical:

Mark Duran co-founded the San Francisco chapter of Queer Nation, a direct action advocacy organization known for its forceful and anti-assimilationist politics. Inspired by ACT UP but with a broader sense of mission, Queer Nation uses camp, wit, and reclamation of slurs to oppose homophobic violence and increase queer visibility. The organization has no formal hierarchy and has never disbanded, although the San Francisco chapter was active only between 1990 and 1991.

Acquisition information:
The collection was donated to the GLBT Historical Society by Mark Duran in 2015.
