Vessel History: The third American-Hawaiian vessel named NEBRASKAN was built in 1912 by Bremer Vulcan Shipbuilders in Vegesack, Germany, for North German Lloyd, and named ELSASS. In 1917, the ship was seized by the United States at Samoa and renamed APPELES. In 1920, the vessel was named KERMIT. In 1927, she was purchased by American-Hawaiian and named NEBRASKAN. She was part of the American-Hawaiian fleet until at least September 1941.
