Primarily contains photographs of American-Hawaiian Steamship Company vessels from 1910-1945 including ALABAMAN (built 1921; freighter), AMERICAN (built 1916; freighter), CALIFORNIAN (built 1922; freighter), CAROLINIAN (built 1921; freighter), COLUMBIAN (built 1913; freighter), FLORIDIAN (built 1921; freighter), HENRY DEARBORN (built 1942; cargo vessel: Liberty ship), HONOLULAN (built 1921; freighter), KANSAN (built 1918; freighter), MEXICAN (built 1906; freighter), MISSOURIAN (built 1922; freighter), OHIOAN (built 1914; freighter), PENNSYLVANIAN (built 1913; freighter) and VIRGINIAN (built 1903; freighter), among others. The vessels are underway, at dock, and under repair.
There are some photographs of the first American-Hawaiian vessels including AMERICAN (built 1900; freighter), CALIFORNIAN (built 1900; freighter), ALASKAN (built 1902; freighter), ARIZONAN (built 1902; freighter), NEBRASKAN (built 1902; freighter) and TEXAN (built 1902; freighter). This Series also includes vessels that were part of subsidiary companies of American-Hawaiian, including the Oceanic & Oriental Navigation Company (O&O), a company jointly purchased by American-Hawaiian and Matson Navigation Company in 1928. O&O was in operation until 1938, at which point the vessels were dispersed between the two companies. There are also photographs of vessels that were part of the Williams Line, which American-Hawaiian purchased in 1929, and the Williams Steamship Corporation, which American-Hawaiian established after purchasing the Williams Line. Some of the vessels that were part of the subsidiary fleets include GOLDEN HORN (built 1919; freighter), GOLDEN PEAK (built 1919; freighter), GOLDEN RIVER (built 1918; freighter), GOLDEN STAR (built 1919; freighter), GOLDEN WALL (built 1920; freighter), WILLBORO (built 1920; freighter), WILLHILO (built 1919; freighter), WILLPOLO (built 1919; freighter) and WILLZIPO (built 1920; freighter).
This Series contains photographs of a few other vessels whose connection to American-Hawaiian and its subsidiary companies is unclear, which can be found in File Unit 73.
