The bulk of the collection focuses on paper samples, price lists, and catalogs. It includes assorted conservation and bookbinding supply catalogs, publications of the Book Club of California, and facsimiles of Dickens novel parts as produced by Stanford University Continuing Studies.

The materials in this collection come from the files of Margaret Johnson’s own bindery, which shut down in the early 21st century. Over the course of her career she worked with notable binders like Stella Patri, and served on the executive committee of the Hand Bookbinders of California.
