The collection contains materials generated during Rabbi Fine's tenure at Congregation Emanu-El (1948-1964), as well as during his teaching career at San Francisco State University (1965-1980). The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence to and from members of the congregation; other rabbis; as well as civic, educational, and religious groups. The collection includes Rabbi Fine's personal papers, such as his master's thesis, degrees and certificates, diaries, and newspaper clippings. In addition, the collection also contains Fine's World War II Army chaplaincy service materials, including monthly chaplain reports, service record files, reserve files, and folders on Jewish refugee life in China. So too, the collection also contains rabbinical materials, which consist of congregation files, subject files, sermons, publications, correspondence, and organizations.
