Background

Scope and content:

The collection of the Rincon del Diablo chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution documents the activities and services performed largely from its inception in 1954 through 1981. Collection contains scrapbooks and miscellaneous records to include minutes, manuals, and genealogical records. These records were submitted by members to be added to the California State D.A.R., and the national D.A.R. libraries. Rancho San Bernardo chapter materials are a set of scrapbooks from 1979-1996.

Biographical / historical:

The Rincon del Diablo chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was organized on October 24, 1954, and its charter was issued on January 5, 1956. By the end of 1954, the chapter consisted of 26 members and was active in programs including national and civil defense, conservation, American history, and good citizenship.

As membership dwindled in both the Rancho San Bernardo and Rincon del Diablo chapters in the late 1990s, the two chapters merged, retaining the Rincon del Diablo name.

Records of the Rincon del Diablo chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution were maintained by the various historians and secretaries of the organization. The initial collection was brought to the Pioneer Romm in August of 1993 by Eileen Menees. A deed of gift was signed by Mrs. Fred W. Borggreve, Regent, on August 4, 1993.

Acquisition information:
Initial collection was processed in August 1993. Subsequent items have been added to the collection, with the last accrual in 2015.
Processing information:

The original collection was inventoried and processed in 1993 by archivist Kathy Cook. Revisions to the collection were made by archivist assistant, Nancy Salisbury, to accommodate subsequent accruals. In 2017, archivist Michelle Peralta re-processed collection while creating machine-readable finding aid.
