The Historic photographic file was compiled by the Monterey Public Library, beginning in the 1930s and later became a central photographic file for the Library's California History Room archives. Most of the materials were received as gifts from area residents, local writers, and photographers. The original photographic file has since been augmented by several other photographic collections.
