Scope and content:

Timothy “Tim” Kingston (born 1959) is an activist, former journalist, and, since 2010, an investigator for the San Francisco Public Defender’s office. Kingston worked as an investigative reporter at the San Francisco Bay Times from 1986-1995 and an investigative reporter (1996-2002) and news editor (1998-2002) at San Francisco Frontiers magazine. He also published pieces related to San Francisco Bay Area politics, criminal justice, health, HIV/AIDS, and civil rights in numerous Bay Area and national publications. This collection includes Kingston’s research and writing files from 1987-1999, including research materials; telephone interview transcripts; interview notes; press releases; and materials gathered in the course of being a reporter. A significant portion of the materials relates to Kingston’s reporting on HIV/AIDS and the activist group ACT UP.
