Scope and content:

This collection contains one correspondence written by John LaForest (Rank Unknown), American Expeditionary Forces, to his parents during the First World War. LaForest wrote this letter 16 days after Armistice. In the letter, LaForest wrote about traveling from Verdun to Marnay, France, the armistice being signed, and coming back home.

Biographical / historical:

John LaForest was born in Tupper Lake, NY (date unknown) and grew up in Piercefield, NY. After the First World War ended, LaForest moved back to Tupper Lake and spent the rest of his life there.
