Scope and content:

The Savoy Tivoli scrapbook contains copies of newspaper clippings and approximately 50 fliers for events held there from August 10, 1979, to December 31st, 1979. Included is a short history of the club with information about Frederick (Freddie) Kuh and Claude Santiago. This scrapbook was likely created sometime in 1980.

Fliers for performers include Mirasol, Irie Reggae Band, Idris Ackamoor, East Bay Mud, Pharoah Sanders Ensemble, Faye Carol, Los Microwaves, Zeros, SVT, Nervous Gender, Touch Tones, The Mutants, Noh Mercy, Target Video, Jim Carroll, Minimal Man, Eye Protection, Voice Farm, Tuxedomoon, No Sisters, Contractions, Urge, and the Punts.

Biographical / historical:

The Savoy Tivoli is a bar, restaurant and venue at 1434 Grant Ave in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco. Established in 1907, it was bought by Frederick Kuh in 1967 from Nick Finocchio. It quickly became a hangout for the Beats of North Beach. It was the first home of Beach Blanket Babylon in the 1974 and was often mentioned in Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City.

The Ramones played there in 1976 when it was being booked by Stephen Gordon. In February 1979, Claude Santiago began managing the club as an independent promoter and reopened the club on August 10, 1979 with a new program of live music which included jazz, reggae, funk, and punk bands.

At the time of this writing in February, 2022, the Savoy Tivoli is reported as closed on Google and Yelp.
