Background

Scope and content:

This collection documents the professional life of Alexander Polovet͡s as a journalist, editor, and publisher of Panorama, one of the major Russian-language publications founded by Jewish immigrants from the Soviet Union.

Polovet͡s' correspondence is of special interest to literary scholars of the Third Wave, as it includes letters from authors such as Vasily Aksyonov, Yuz Aleshkovsky, Sergei Dovlatov, Anatoly Gladilin, Igor Guberman, Edward Limonov, and Vladimir Maximov. The collection is also of note since it includes photographs of authors and audio files of conversations with them. This also applies to other cultural and political figures.

An extensive file of photographs, and sound and video recordings chronicles Alexander Polovet͡s' friendship with Bulat Okudzhava.
