Background

-
A History of the Wapama (built 1915; steam schooner) carbon copy of typescript (SAFR 17526, HDC 367) contains a 43-page, unbound manuscript titled S.S. Wapama, a History. The manuscript contains a color postcard of the WAPAMA affixed to the first page and a poem titled "the steam schooner." The author discusses Charles McCormick and his lumber and shipbuilding companies (including the builder of the WAPAMA); and it discusses steam schooners in general. The rest of the manuscript is devoted to the history of the WAPAMA, its voyages, shifting ownership, its renaming to the TONGASS, and its delivery in 1958 to the Maritime Historic Park.
