Scope and content:

The collection consists primarily of literary works, some signed by Lemmon, some anonymous, and a couple by other people. The writings deal with themes related to Southwest Indians, including Hopis, Navajos, Apaches, and Papagos. There is some correspondence (1906-1925) and a few reports about various Indian reservations.

Biographical / historical:

Lemmon worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, first as a school teacher and subsequently as superintendent of several schools. He worked in Keam's Canyon, Arizona; San Carlos, New Mexico; and Grand Junction, Colorado.
