The Lugo family is one of California's oldest families. The original Lugo land grant, Rancho San Antonio, was received by Don Antonio Maria Lugo in 1810 and was located near the present-day city of Compton. Antonio Maria Lugo served as Alcalde (mayor) of Los Angeles from 1816-1819 and the Lugo family remained prominent landowners throughout California's Spanish and Mexican eras. Antonio Maria Lugo's grandson Andres Lugo, and his wife Erolinda, had four children, including Vincent Lugo, who was park supervisor for the city of San Gabriel for more than 30 years. Vincent Lugo and his wife Rosita had one son, Vincent W. Lugo.
