Background

Scope and content:

Register 1 contains account entries from 1893-1895 (Owen Palmer), and 1912 to 1920 (Rudolph). Registers 3-5 contain entries from 1910 to 1925.

Biographical / historical:

In 1906, Louis Rudolph (1873-1926) purchased the furniture store of Owen W. Palmer in Mariposa Hall, New Monterey. Rudolph's became a well-known establishment supplying furnishings, including stoves, to residences and businesses throughout the Monterey Peninsula. With the death of Louis Rudolph, his son Raymond took over the business. Raymond Rudolph recalled accompanying his father "on a weekly horse and wagon trip over Carmel Hill to deliver furniture."
