This collection documents the professional, civic and social activities of lawyer, leather man and Republican Party activist, Duke Armstrong. The collection includes a significant amount of incoming and outgoing correspondence (1966-1988); personal letters are mixed in with correspondence related to his law practice and his civic and social activities. There are also records of Concerned Republicans for Individual Rights (1980-1987); materials related to the San Francisco Band Foundation and Lesbian and Gay Bands of America; subject files related to Armstrong's other civic and political activities; personalia, including some of his essays and speeches; a small number of photographs; and artifacts related to his activities in the leather community. Biographical / historical:

Duke Armstrong was a lawyer, leather man and Republican Party Activist. He was president of the board of Concerned Republicans for Individual Rights for two years and worked to build bridges between the gay community and the GOP. Armstrong also served for two years as President of the San Francisco Band Foundation and was honorary advisor to the Jon Sims Endowment Fund for the Performing Arts. He was on the Cable Car Awards Board for three years and was voted Mr. CMC Carnival in 1986. Armstrong died of AIDS in 1988 at the age of 39.
