This collection contains the papers and recordings of American radio commentator John J. Anthony (1902-1970). Materials include transcripts, audio recordings, scripts, and files from several programs on which either Anthony hosted or was featured. Disc recordings are present in the collection; materials are fragile and require assistance for access.

Biographical / historical:

John J. Anthony (1902-1970), born Lester Kroll, was an American radio host, disc jockey, and announcer. Anthony was known for providing expert advice on marriage, divorce, and marital relations to listeners, despite being divorced and having gone to jail for not paying child support. His notable radio programs were Goodwill Hour program on Mutual and NBC-BLUE (1937-1944), A Helping Hand on CBS (1941-1942), The John J. Anthony Program on Mutual (1945-1949), and The John J. Anthony Hour on Mutual (1951-1953). Anthony also portrayed a divorce court judge in the 1966 film Divorce American Style.
