Background

Scope and content:

Photograph album containing 42 cabinet photographs, cartes de visite and tintypes apparently related to the John Eleazer Albee and Erastus Ormsby families. Most of the photographs are not identified; however, those that are named are Albee and Ormsby. Most of the studios are in the Michigan area and Midwest: Bay City, Michigan; Saginaw, Michigan; Fort Dodge, Iowa; Detroit, Michigan; Adrian, Michigan; Omro, Wisconsin; Marysville, Kansas; Blissfield, Michigan; Windsor, Ontario; Monroe, Michigan; Omaha, Nebraska. Several are from Massachusetts: Amherst, Westfield, North Brookfield. Based on the names and locations, the Albee photographs appear to be related to John Eleazer Albee (1805-1884) and his wife Lydia B. Wellman (1805-1883) of Amherst, Massachusetts. The "Annie" who is addressed to on the back of at least two photographs may be Ann Grace Albee (1924-1976), descendant of John and Lydia. The other family referenced, the Ormsbys, appear to be descendants of Erastus D. Ormsby (1822-1899) and wife Ruth Naomi Weeks (1822-1895) through Mildred Estelle Ormsby (m. William B. Hazen) and their daughter Ruth Gladys Hazen (1891-1946).
