- Ruth McGuire Phd was one of the cofounders of The Women's Foundation of California and a member of the Daughters of Bilitis, the first lesbian civil and political rights organization in the United States. In 1968 she published a short story in the lesbian publication The Ladder entitled "The Intake Interview," which dealt with lesbian identity in the context of the mental health profession both as a patient and as a health care provider. This collection contains correspondence, referrals and reports related to preliminary assessments of patients involved in psychoanalysis and/or psychotherapy.

This collection contains referrals, correspondence and preliminary reports from several different practitioners of psychoanalytic techniques. All patients were referred by Ruth McGuire.

Ruth McGuire Phd was one of the cofounders of The Women's Foundation of California, a publicly supported foundation and grant maker focused on: human trafficking intervention and prevention, lesbian and transgender rights, environmental health, criminal justice work and campaigns to build women's economic security. McGuire was also a member of the Daughters of Bilitis, the first lesbian civil and political rights organization in the United States. She published a short story in the lesbian publication The Ladder in 1968 entitled "The Intake Interview," which dealt with lesbian identity in the context of the mental health profession both as a patient and as a health care provider.
