Scope and content:

This collection contains information about Measure G, a ballot initiative for Arcata, California, that requested a ¾ cents sales tax increase to fund infrastructure and public services. The measure passed by a vote of 63.49% on November 4, 2008. The collection contains annotated meeting agendas and minutes, newspaper clippings, campaign ephemera, and reports.

Biographical / historical:

Alexandra Fairless initially ran for Arcata City Council in 1972 becoming the first woman to join the Arcata City Council. After her 1976 re-election she became the first woman to be mayor of Arcata. Alexandra Fairless remained on Arcata's City Council until 1980. As Alexandra Stillman, she was elected again to Arcata's City Council in 2006. In 2010 she served again as Mayor. She has also serviced on numerous civic boards and community groups.
