Biographical / historical:

The Mike Curb College of Arts, Media, and Communication was first organized in 1963 at San Fernando Valley State College as the School of Fine Arts and Professional Studies. In 1972, when the campus became California State University, Northridge, the majors of the School of Fine Arts were split into two new schools. The School of Arts was formed from the Departments of Art, Theatre, and Music, while the Departments of Health, Journalism, Physical Education, and Recreation were placed in the new School of Communication and Professional Studies.

In 1996, the School of Arts incorporated the Departments of Journalism, Speech Communication and Radio-TV-Film from the School of Communication, Health, and Human Services, and was reorganized to become the College of Arts, Media, and Communication. In 2006, in honor of a large donation from CSUN alumnus Mike Curb, the College was renamed the Mike Curb College of Arts, Media, and Communication.
