Scope and content:

The Arizona Eastern Railroad Records Collection is seperated into three series. One contains equipment records on rolling stock, maintenance equipment, and locomotives. The second series is an application for public convenience that the Arizona Eastern RR submitted to the Interstate Commerce Commission in 1924. Finally, the third contains financial records from 1901 to 1950.

The equipment series consists of six total volumes that cover the years between 1901 and 1920, and includes information about the date the equipment was built, who it was built by and where, how much it is valued at, and the disposition of the Arizona Eastern's rolling stock. Two of the volumes cover the rolling stock, which includes passenger cars, freight cars, business cars, and maintenance of way equipment. Two volumes deal with equipment sold, wrecked, or transfered. One volume coveres changes made to any equipment built in Arizona Eastern shops. Finally, One volume contains a record of locomotives through 1918.

The second series contains an application from the Arizona Eastern RR submitted to the Interstate Commerce Commission for a certificate of public convinience and necessity for the construction of extensions and new lines.

The third and final series contains the financial records of the Arizona Eastern RR Company from 1910 to 1950, and consists of twenty-six volumes in total. Twelve of the volumes are cash books, and cover payroll deductions, vouchers, reciepts, disbursements, department bills, and records of expenditures from 1912 to 1929. Eight volumes deal with accounts payable from 1904 to 1950. Two volumes are books for the auditor's office from 1921 to 1922. Finally, one volume is an abstract of debts and credits to operating expenses from January to June of 1910.

Biographical / historical:

The Arizona Eastern Railroad was incorporated on January 29, 1910 by the Southern Pacific Company. It was a consolidation of six railroads, including the Arizona Eastern Railroad of 1904. It included 382 miles of absorbed, leased, and constructed track and ran from Wellton, Arizona to Winkleman and Christmas.
