Scope and content:

This collection contains the papers of American actress Fay Bainter (1892-1968) including scripts, stills and photographs, and personal documents, clippings, and correspondence. Materials include stills and photographs from approximately 15 films; scripts of fifteen stage plays; stills and photographs from approximately twenty stage plays; clippings covering approximately twenty stage plays (1912-1960), ten stage play programs; scripts of six television programs; correspondence (1917-1967), often concerning dramatic performances; miscellaneous publicity clippings and magazine articles dating from 1906; miscellaneous photographs of Bainter's early years in the theater, publicity photographs, and photographs of family and friends; personal items and documents including Bainter's U.S. passport Screen Actors Guild membership card, receipts, financial statements and expenses, contracts, etc.; and miscellaneous items pertaining to the Academy Awards including a photograph of Bainter receiving her Oscar in 1938.

Biographical / historical:

Fay Okell Bainter (1893-1968) was an American film and theater actress. She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in "Jezebel" (1938).
