Background

Scope and content:

Approximately 1,000 black and white photographs of rhythm and blues artists. The photographs are mostly professional headshots or promotional studio shots, with some signed by the artist.

The prints and signatures are undated, but a majority of the artists were active throughout the 1940s to 1960s. It is not specified if these are original or later reprints.

Biographical / historical:

Richard Reicheg (May 26, 1937-July 30, 2021), an American actor, musician, and songwriter, was born and raised in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York, New York. He served in the United States Army in Germany during the 1950s, and received degrees in speech and theater from Brooklyn College upon his return.

He performed in music groups in New York and across the US and Canada and later settled in Los Angeles, California. He married Julie Payne, an actress and voice actor, and spent years writing music for film, television, and theater. He was nominated for a Grammy for the soundtrack to the Robert Altman film Nashville and the hit "Looking for an Echo."
