Abstract:
Former vertical file transferred from the UC Santa Barbara Music Library to the UC Santa Barbara Library Department of Special Research Collections. Included in this collection are materials on contemporary composers collected by the Department of Music, which may include composer biographies, composer catalogs, concert programs, newspaper clippings, playbills, album liner notes, personal letters, composer musicological society invitations (i.e. American Brahms Society), academic correspondence, internal UCSB staff and faculty correspondence, magazine articles, and/or sample manuscripts.

Background

Scope and content:

This collection consists of a variety of materials relating to contemporary composers from UCSB Music Library's verticle files. Materials may include composer biographies, composer catalogs, concert programs, newspaper clippings, playbills, album liner notes, personal letters, composer musicological society invitations (i.e. American Brahms Society), academic correspondence, internal UCSB staff and faculty correspondence, magazine articles, and/or sample manuscripts. The bulk of the material dates between the 1950s-1980s.

This collection is arranged alphabetically into three series by the composer's last name:

  • Series 1: A-K
  • Series 2: L-R
  • Series 3: S-Z
