Scope and content:

The Bayard Stockton Good Companions Radio Show Collection contains one hundred four (104) community affairs radio interviews digitized from audiocassette copies of interviews from the "Good Companions" radio show, hosted by Bayard Stockton on station KMGQ-FM Goleta. The collection includes tape index sheets for some of the interviews.

Biographical / historical:

Bayard Stockton (1930-2006), the Good Companions program host, started his career as a Cold War spy for the CIA in post-WW II Europe. In the 1960s he worked as a foreign correspondent for Newsweek. He also authored three books. Stockton moved to Santa Barbara in 1980 where he became involved in the community. Over the years, he was known as a radio personality, a teacher, writer, lecturer, media hound, political watchdog, and staunch supporter of causes. The Good Companions program ended its three-year run in 1986 when radio station KMGQ-FM Goleta was sold.

Acquisition information:
The Bayard Stockton Good Companions Radio Show audio tapes were donated by Bayard Stockton to the Santa Barbara Historical Museum in 1997.
Processing information:

The Bayard Stockton Good Companions Radio Show Collection was processed by Chris S. Ervin CA in July and August 2021. The audiocassette tapes were digitized by California Revealed during the 2021/2022 grant cycle and are hosted by California Revealed and Internet Archive. The digital versions were quality-controlled by Chris S. Ervin CA in February 2023.
