The Land of Sunshine/Out West Magazine collection (June 1895-December 1908, June 1912) contains 2.5 linear feet of the magazine "Out West." "Out West" was first published as "The Land of the Sunshine" until it's name changed in 1902 to "Out West." The magazine eventually merged with "Overland Monthly." This collection starts at Vol. 3 of "The Land of Sunshine," and ends at volume 8 of "Out West." There is also one issue from the new series in 1912.

"The Land of Sunshine" was published by F.A. Pattee Publishing Company in June 1894. At the end of 1894, Charles Fletcher Lummis was named editor of the publication. Writers in the publication included John Music, Jack London, Mary Hunter Austin, Grace Ellery Channing, and others. In 1902, the publication changed its name to "Out West." It received another name change after it merged with "Overland Monthly" to become the "Overland Monthly and Out West Magazine" and remained in publication until July 1935.
