Contains papers relating to George E. Hammond's career with the Pullman Company [Richmond, California] shops and to his participation in the War Manpower Commission's Training Within Industry Program, a supervisory and shop steward (union) level training program designed to increase war production. Material includes: photographs of Pullman Company, Richmond, California Shops workers, Association of Railway Supervisors Association/Western Region. Also contains wallet cards, a seniority roster, inventory cards, notices of vacancies, bills for material, three safety awards, an October 1938 issue of PULLMAN NEWS, and a 1910 postcard. There are training materials and guides issued by the Bureau of Training of the War Manpower Commission during WWII called the Training Within Industry Program.

George E. Hammond was the Foreman of the Cabinet-Wood Machine Department in the Pullman Company Richmond Shops. During World War II, he participated in a program called the Training Within Industry Program designed to increase war production through smarter supervision. As a secondary function, the program attempted to help the transition to more women and minority workers. Mr. Hammond was one of Pullman's trainers for this program.
