The San Jose Branch of the Association of Collegiate Alumnae (later changed to the American Association of University Women) was organized in 1909 with the purpose of advancing higher education for women and community improvement. Today AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. AAUW is open to all graduates who hold an associate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university. A full history can be read in “100 Years 1909-2009 AAUW San Jose” published by the branch in 2009.
