This collection contains approximately 250 pieces of art, including working drawings and finished artwork from "Love and Death III" series and "Canticle to the Waterbirds" by William Everson and individual prints. Also included are samples of student works from Stolpe's Native Images workshops.

Biographical / historical:

Daniel Owen Stolpe was born in 1939 in Los Angeles, California. Stolpe attended the Los Angeles County Art Institute (OTIS) until 1962, then apprenticed with artists Don La Viere Turner and Joe Funk. Commissioned by the Smithsonian Institute in the late 1960s, he moved to Washington, D.C. to illustrate extinct birds for their magazine and for the Atlantic Monthly. In 1970, Stolpe moved to Santa Cruz, California, where he established Native Images Studios with Joe Funk and taught printmaking at UC Santa Cruz. Stolpe produced work in a variety of mediums, including monotypes, paintings, woodcuts, lithographs, etchings, and serigraphs. Stolpe passed away on December 12, 2018.
