The Paul Chalfin drawing of the James Deering residence Villa Vizcaya consists of one reprographic copy of a bird’s eye perspective of the Miami mansion Villa Vizcaya. It is undated, but probably dates circa 1914 to circa 1923.

Biographical / historical:

Paul Chalfin, born 1874, studied for two years at Harvard University. He left Harvard to pursue a career as an artist and was accepted at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1898, where he studied painting with Jean-Leon Gerome. Chalfin’s best known work is the Villa Vizcaya, a mansion in Miami, Florida, for which he was responsible for the design, decoration, and furnishing of the main house and garden. Chalfin died in 1959.
