Note:
Lyman Bridges was born in Worcester, Massachusetts and followed in the footsteps of his father, becaming an architect and
civil engineer after graduating from Worcester Academy. After moving to Chicago he became assistant engineer for the Mississippi
Central Railroad. Bridges served with distinction in the Civil War, and afterwards returned to civil engineering (particularly
on railroads) in Chicago, Vienna, and finally on the Pacific Coast.
