Title:
Newcastle Development Association minutes and hydraulic mining news clippings, 1896-1927
Newcastle
Abstract:
Ledger book containing meeting minutes of the Newcastle Development Association from April 11, 1896 to February 26, 1907.
Beginning in 1926, this ledger was reused for the unrelated purpose of pasting in news clippings pertaining to hydraulic mining
and its resultant flooding problems. At that time a label reading "Clippings on Hydraulic Mining Jan 21, 1926- " was glued
to the cover.

Note:
The Newcastle Development Association was formed on April 11, 1896 with George D. Kellogg as President, its purpose being
to promote Newcastle as a good place to live and work. Among this organization's accomplishments were the publication of a
brochure, and the raising of $2000 to install a town water system. Since this ledger does not contain minute meetings after
February 26, 1907, it is possible that the Newcastle Development Association ceased to exist at that time, although such is
not known for certain.
