German Bar Gold Mine.
Allegheny Mining District.
Mining -- California
Note:
The German Bar Gold Mine is located in Nevada County, California, 26 miles north of Grass Valley and Nevada City in the Allegheny
District on the Middle Yuba River. It was active and productive beginning in the 1850s but closed down at the end of the 19th
Century. Unsuccessful attempts were made to reopen the mine, but in 1927 engineer Thomas Stevens purchased the property with
the intention of using modern mining techniques. He spent five years getting the mine ready to reopen, which is depicted in
this album's photographs.
