Note:
Alfred John Rivett was born in Sacramento in 1856, son of John Rivett, who came to California from England during the Gold
Rush and in 1852 sent for his fiancee Sarah Cook, whom he married in San Francisco. The family, by now including three children,
returned to England about 1859, where John died of tuberulosis. Sarah brought the children back to Sacramento in about 1873,
where Alfred and his brother John had newspaper routes and soon opened a printing business known as A. & E. Rivett. Alfred
died in 1879.
