Clark Ashton Smith (1893-1961) was a California poet who in the early twentieth century became part of the "West Coast Romantics"
alongside Ambrose Bierce, Joaquin Miller, George Sterling, and Nora May French. He later turned to fantasy, horror, and science
fiction short stories and became associated with H. P. Lovecraft. Smith was also a sculptor and a painter.
Donald Sidney-Fryer was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on September 8, 1934. After serving in the United States Marine
Corps he moved to California, studied classical ballet, and began writing poetry after visiting Clark Ashton Smith. Aside
from his poetry Sidney-Fryer also edited three volumes of Smith's work and wrote a bibliography on him.
