Note:
Henry D. Platt was probably from Watertown, Connecticut and studied in that state, subsequently working as a teacher. He sailed
for California from New Haven in May of 1849, and after passing through Rio de Janeiro arrived the following January. After
stops in San Francisco and Sacramento, noting numerous potential business opportunities, Platt died in Auburn of dysentery
on April 30, 1850.
