Scope and content:

This series contains materials related to Bunche's studies of government and political science at Harvard Graduate School. Materials include class notebooks, note cards, course materials and syllabi, master's thesis, dissertation field work from Dahomey and Togoland, bibliography note cards and doctoral dissertation on French colonial administration. Outlines from courses taken at Northwestern University in preparation for dissertation fieldwork are also included. The dissertation is complete, although there is no chapter number 2. (Chapters 1 and 2 were renamed Introduction and Chapter 1 upon submission.)

Materials are grouped together by course (e.g. Government 23), then arranged in chronological order.

Family requested that series 21, subseries 1: Personal Correspondence between Ralph J. Bunche and Ruth H. Bunche (boxes 476-480) were closed until the deaths of both Joan H. Bunche and Ralph Bunche Jr. As of April 2021, the family would like to review the materials in these boxes before lifting the restriction.
