This series contains honorary degrees, awards, certificates of recognition, trophies and plaques awarded to Bunche. Also found in this series are materials related to his receipt of the Nobel Peace Prize (1950). City and state resolutions in honor of Bunche also appear in this series.
Materials are arranged into the following four sub-series: Honorary Degrees; Awards, Citations and Honors; Nobel Prize Materials; and Medals, Plaques, and Trophies. Materials are arranged within each sub- series by chronology or appropriate housing size.

- Family requested that series 21, subseries 1: Personal Correspondence between Ralph J. Bunche and Ruth H. Bunche (boxes 476-480) were closed until the deaths of both Joan H. Bunche and Ralph Bunche Jr. As of April 2021, the family would like to review the materials in these boxes before lifting the restriction.
