This series contains papers of a personal nature and papers pertaining to Bunche's relatives, and is divided into five subseries.
Sub-series notes:
21.1 Personal correspondence: This subseries contains letters between Ralph and Ruth Bunche. This material is closed until after the deaths of Joan H. Bunche and Ralph Bunche, Jr.
21.2 Ralph Bunche: This subseries includes records relating to Bunche's employment, personal finances, and property. Letters of appointment and resignation, per diem applications and leave forms, pension and benefits information for Bunche's jobs with the Office of Strategic Services, the United Nations and Harvard University, resumes and questionnaires for biographical dictionaries, income tax forms, receipts, wills, insurance policies and other items will be found in this subseries. Also included is correspondence and documents pertaining to the unauthorized biography, "Ralph Bunche: Fighter for Peace� written by J. Alvin Kugelmass, and correspondence, scripts and other documents pertaining to the film "Toward Tomorrow: the Ralph Bunche-Lucy Johnson Story.�
21.3 Ruth Bunche: This subseries contains education and employment records, passports, wills and estate appraisals for Ruth Bunche. Also included are drafts of an essay and a letter to the editor of the New York Times that were handwritten by Ralph Bunche, but published under Ruth Bunche's name.
21.4 Family Papers: This subseries includes family history compositions by Bunche's aunts Nelle and Ethel Johnson, reminiscences about Bunche's grandmother Lucy Johnson, and correspondence and souvenirs related to Bunche's children Joan, Jane and Ralph, Jr.
21.5 Memorials and tributes: This subseries consists of materials about the disposition of Bunche's papers and effects, the monument "Peace Form One,� dedicated to his memory in Ralph Bunche Park at the United Nations, the commemorative postage stamp of his likeness issued in 1982, and the use of his name in publication and for schools and scholarships.

Bunche and Ralph Bunche Jr. As of April 2021, the family would like to review the materials in these boxes before lifting the restriction.
