Description
This collection contains published periodical and unpublished manuscript material pertaining to the Grateful Dead and their fans, the Deadheads, compiled during the preparation of Dodd's coauthored book, The Grateful Dead and the Deadheads: An Annotated Bibliography (Greenwood, 1997), as well as drafts and associated materials used in the preparation of Dodd's coedited book, The Complete Annotated Grateful Dead Lyrics (Free Press, 2005). Some papers were presented at the first meeting of the Grateful Dead area of the Southwest/Texas American Culture and Popular Culture Association conference, which later became the Grateful Dead Scholars Caucus.
Background
The David Dodd Grateful Dead collection consists of original and photocopied printed reference material about the Grateful Dead musical group and their fans, the Deadheads, assembled during the research for Dodd's coathored book, The Grateful Dead and the Deadheads: An Annotated Bibliography (Greenwood Press, 1997), written with Robert G. Weiner. The collection also includes drafts, correspondence, and materials pertaining to Dodd's coedited book, The Complete Annotated Grateful Dead Lyrics (Free Press, 2005). David Dodd is also the creator of The Annotated Grateful Dead Lyrics website, which was the precursor to the book of the same name.
