Series 1. Correspondence Out 1909-1923

Arrangement note

Arranged chronologically overall and alphabetically within each date.

Scope and Contents note

The majority of this material is carbon copies, usually not signed and often not even initialed. Some of these were probably not by Lissner. According to Alice Rose it must be noted that carbon copies of letters included (1907-1909) were signed by Charles W. Bell, Sidney A. Butler, William Justus Rice, Frank G. Henderson and members of the Lissner office staff as well as Meyer Lissner. In some cases letters by Louis M. Lissner and Joseph L. Lewinsohn have been included where they are acting as agents of the law firm.

Series 2. Correspondence In 1903-1923

Arrangement note

Arranged alphabetically overall and chronologically for each individual correspondent.

Scope and Contents note

This is a general correspondence file and includes many letters written to persons other than Lissner. There are corporate as well as individual entries in this file so when looking for correspondence by a person, one should also refer to the organization and/or companies with which he was connected. This may also be used in the opposite way, i.e. when interested in a particular organization to look under the names of the various organization officers as well. Government organizations on state and local levels in most cases may be found under the name of the state, county or city, then alphabetically by key word. For the Lincoln-Roosevelt League, Republican and Progressive party material etc., particularly on the county level, refer also to the location. Businesses, clubs etc. generally are found under their own names if in Los Angeles and under location names (first word of national organization) if not in Los Angeles: i.e. City Club of Los Angeles, but New York City Club; Municipal League of Los Angeles, but National Municipal League.
