Biography
Born in New York in 1832, Charles DeLong came to California in 1850. By 1853 he owned several gold claims near North San Juan
on the Yuba River in Nevada County. He was elected Deputy Sheriff and later studied law. He was admitted to the Bar in 1857
and was later elected to State Assembly from Yuba County, serving two terms. From 1869 to 1874 he was U.S. Minister to Japan.
He died October 26, 1876.
