Abstract: The Reverend Joseph Woodfall (1824-1908) collected and edited English ballads and poetry. His publications include
The Roxburghe Ballads and the
Westminster Drolleries of 1671 and 1672. The collection consists of holograph letters signed from various persons to the Reverend Ebsworth of Edinburgh and holograph
notes by Ebsworth on ballads and religious subjects.

Biography
The Reverend Joseph Woodfall, M.A. was born in 1824; graduated from St. John's College, Cambridge in 1864, and was ordained
in the same year; in 1871 he became the vicar of Molash, Kent; collected and edited English ballads and poetry; publications
include
The Roxburghe Ballads (editor, 1869), and the
Westminster Drolleries of 1671 and 1672 (editor, 1875); he died in 1908.
Scope and Content
Collection consists of holograph letters signed from various persons to the Reverend Ebsworth of Edinburgh. Includes letters
from John Francis (1892-1904), 2 letters from Kenneth Grahame, notes from F.J. Furnivall concerning Ebsworth's editing of
the
Roxburghe Ballads, part 24, vol.8, and holograph notes by Ebsworth on ballads and religious subjects.
