Biography
James Franklin Houghton was born December 1, 1827 in Massachusetts. He came to California in 1850 and founded the lumber firm
of Pine and Houghton. By profession, he was a civil engineer serving from 1862-1868 as Surveyor General of California. He
died in San Francisco January 31, 1903.
