Description
These reports and papers on aerodynamics are primarily in German, with a few in French, Italian, and English; research facilities represented include Aeodynamische Versuchsanstalt in Gottingen and Deutsche Versuchsanstalt fur Luftfahrt in Berlin-Aldershof. Most are published items but a few are typescript. Authors include Albert Betz, Wilhelm Flugge, Irmgard Flugge-Lotz, H. Goertler, B. Goethert, Hermann Greinel, Alfred Hawranek, Karl Klotter, Hans Naumann, F. Riegels, F. Ringleb, G. Rossner, and Karl Wieghardt. Collection also includes one folder, "Preisausschreiben 1941," containing correspondence among Flugge-Lotz, W. Tollmien, Dr. Boje, L. Prandtl, and M. Kohler, 1941-43.
Background
Irmgard Flugge-Lotz was professor of engineering at Stanford from 1949 until her retirement in 1968. Born in Germany, Dr. Flugge-Lotz earned her Doctor of Engineering degree at the Technical University of Hanover. She was head of the theoretical department at Gottingen's Aerodynamics Research Center and a scientific adviser to German and French research institutes in fluid mechanics before coming to Stanford.
