    Abstract: John Carl Parish (1881-1939) was a history professor who taught at Colorado College, the State University of Iowa, and UCLA. He edited the State Historical Society of Iowa's monthly journal, The Palimpsest (1920-22), the Proceedings of the Southern California Historical Society, and the Pacific Historical Review. His published books include Robert Lucas (1907), George Wallace Jones (1912), and The Man with the Iron Hand (1913). The collection consists of bibliography cards, typed transcripts and film reproductions of manuscripts, and note cards of document and manuscript material relating to the colonial period and westward movement in American history, with special emphasis on the 18th century and sources in French.

    Biography

    Parish was born on July 25, 1881 in Des Moines, Iowa; Ph.D, State University of Iowa, 1908; assistant professor of history, 1914, and in 1915, professor of history, Colorado College; after serving in World War I, he was lecturer in history at the State University of Iowa, 1920-22; assistant professor, 1922-24, associate professor, 1924-27, and professor of history, UCLA; edited the State Historical Society of Iowa's monthly journal, The Palimpsest, 1920-22; later edited the Proceedings of the Southern California Historical Society, and in 1932 became editor of the Pacific Historical Review; published books include Robert Lucas (1907), George Wallace Jones (1912), and The Man with the Iron Hand (1913); he died on January 13, 1939 in Los Angeles.

    Collection consists of research materials of UCLA history professor John Carl Parish. Includes bibliography cards, typed transcripts and film reproductions of manuscripts, and note cards of document and manuscript material relating to the colonial period and westward movement in American history, with special emphasis on the 18th century and sources in French.
