Description
The J. Arthur (Jesse Arthur) Younger Papers consist of the office files of J. Arthur Younger who was a United States Representative
of Congress for California's 11th Congressional District in San Mateo County from 1952-1967.
Background
Jesse Arthur Younger, born 11 April 1893, Albany, Oregon, moved to Kirkland, Washington, graduated from the University of
Washington at Seattle in 1915, and served in World War I. He served with the Washington National Guard with the 48th Coast
Artillery Corps from 1917 until August 1919 when he was discharged as a Captain. From 1920-1930 Younger was the vice-president,
director, manager of mortgage loan department of the Seattle Title Trust Company. He was the President of the Seattle Mortgage
Loan Company from 1930-1934. From 1934-1937 he was the regional appraiser for the Home Owners Loan Corporation, the assistant
appraiser for the Home Loan Bank Board, and the Chief of Savings and Loan Division of Federal Home Loan Bank Board. In 1937
he moved to San Mateo, California where he was the executive vice-president of the Citizens Federal Savings & Loan Association
in San Francisco.
