Description
Jonreed Lauritzen (1902- ) contributed travel and descriptive articles to Holiday, Family Circle, Westways and other magazines. He also wrote many children's books. The collection consists of the corrected typescripts and galley proofs of Lauritzen's novels, The Rose and the Flame, and Song Before Sunrise.
Background
Lauritzen was born on July 22, 1902 in Richfield, Utah; attended University of California at Berkeley, UCLA, and Columbia University; also studied singing, drama and art; worked with U.S. Department of the Interior as a field representative concerned with national parks, reclamation, public lands, fish and game; writer and member of Authors League of America and P.E.N. International; contributed travel and descriptive articles to Holiday, Family Circle, Westways and other magazines; winner of the Southern California Council on Children's Literature award for the most notable children's book published in 1961, The Legend of Billy Bluesage; other books include Song Before Sunrise (1948), The Rose and the Flame (1951), and The Battle of San Pascual (1968).
